Visiting Antwerp soon? Check out the Diamond Divas exhibit showcasing jewelry worn by the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Madonna

Diamond Divas, a glitzy show of diamonds owned or worn by women of the glitterati, will open in Antwerp on April 11th at the Antwerp Diamond Museum. If you're fortunate enough to be in the area when the show is on, you'll be able to see the 24.04-carat canary yellow pear-shaped diamond that Marilyn Monroe wore to the premiere of "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" and the tiara that Madonna wore when she married British director Guy Richie. Other pieces showcase the tastes of crowned heads like Empress Josephine, Countess Mountbatten of Burma, Queen Elizabeth of Belgium, and others. If, like most of us, you're unable to attend the show (it ends June 8, 2008), the Web site's gallery is worth a peek.

The exhibit is based on a book of the same name written by Vinciane van Grotenhuis van Onstein. She wanted to explore the link between exceptional women and exceptional jewels, whether in the form of power, freedom, or fashion. The book is due out on April 10, 2008.

About Kristin Sutter

I started working on Art Jewelry as the copy editor in April 2005. (At the same time, I was also the copy editor for Art Jewelry's sister publications, BeadStyle and Bead&Button.) So, I've spent more than two years learning all I could about jewelry and Art Jewelry's readers. My job was to make sure the magazines were easy to understand when they got into your hands. That's still my job now that I'm working solely for Art Jewelry, but now I'll also be doing some writing and, well, whatever Hazel needs me to do, really. I'm excited to have new challenges, to have fun trying out ideas, to work with this staff (such cool people!), and to be able to make this your favorite magazine!
