Do you make and wear jewelry that's in fashion, or is your jewelry emotional?

Jewelry is emotional for me, and I think it is for a lot of people. Today, I'm wearing a necklace that my brother gave me for my 18th birthday. It's just costume jewelry, but I really like it, and I have a lot of good memories associated with it.

I still have the silver locket my parents gave me for my 13th birthday, the silver charm bracelet they gave me for my 14th birthday, and the gold Claddagh ring they gave me for my 16th birthday (I wear the ring nearly every day). Last year, my parents gave me a simple crystal snowflake pendant for my birthday, and I know I'll have it for years.

To me, jewelry isn't just adornment; it's a way of remembering a time, place, or person. What does jewelry mean to you? Do you wear jewelry purely for fashion? What about the jewelry you make? Is it in vogue, is it a keepsake, or is it both?

I make jewelry not only for myself but to sell in the hair salon that I work in for me it's both an emotional  and a fashion statement of my own!! I just enjoy the whole creative process,  I am a polymer clay artist and the clay is in my blood!!

I would love to say that I wear jewelry that is always fashionable.  I would also love to be able to say that I MAKE jewelry for the same reason.  But I can hardly keep up on fashion all the time.  And making it according to the fashion trend will keep your merchandising in constant movement.  How could you become good at something with so much change and adaptation in style?  I feel if you make good quality, classic styled jewelry, with possibly a "trendy" flare, that would be enough to keep up in the fashion world.  The people that buy high end jewelry usually stick with the unique but classic style.  I think jewelry is more emotional.  I suspect a poll on this will prove that is true for most women, and not just the ones who make jewelry.  Great thought and great question!

I only make jewelry I like; I generally don't think about what is fashionable (it's too fatiguing to keep up with, anyway).  My jewelry is pretty bold, and the people who like my jewelry generally are more interested in making a statement than in following trends.

I do pay attention to what colors are in fashion for my bridal jewelry, though.

I like to think that theres a bit of soul in my  jewelry and it will create its own emotion with whomever it chooses to go home with.  Fashion isnt a priority with me,  matching the perfect person to the necklace is.

Thank you for your comments. It's great to hear that, in general, all of you make what you like instead of being driven by what's popular at the moment.
