15th Annual Sculpture Objects & Functional Art Fair (SOFA): Chicago 2008

The leaves are falling here in the Midwest. We're gearing up for shorter days and longer nights. The change in season also means that the annual SOFA show in the Windy City is only a few weeks away. The Sculpture Objects & Functional Art Fair is returning to Navy Pier on November 6-9, 2008. A few of us here at AJ will be heading down to SOFA to check out the array of fine art being shown by 100 galleries from 16 countries. We'll be talking with artists, keeping our eyes open for trends, and zeroing in on the jewelry being exhibited at this year's show. I really like this event because of the variety of media that the artists work in. Everything from glass, metals, textiles, ceramics, wood, and more. Even though I do get a case of sensory overload when I visit this show, I always come away rejuvenated and ready to get in the studio and experiment! I hope you're able to take a field trip soon to recharge your creative batteries. Have a great week.   ;)  Jill

You would think that Phoenix being the fifth largest city in the country would and having beautiful weather could have something like this but alas we don't. What do we have you may ask? Tourist trap art for the most part. Tucson on the other hand does have the winter Gem and Mineral Show. It must be nice to have sensory overload.

About Jill Erickson

I joined the Art Jewelry staff in March, 2006 as an Associate Editor. The time really does fly around here. It doesn't get much better than working with artists, authors, fun co-workers and looking at jewelry all day. Another bonus to magazine work is the opportunity to attend jewelry shows and conferences -- I truly look forward to these "field trips" and the chance to meet and talk with our readers and contributors.
