I love grey. I love the color. I love the metaphor. I love spelling it with an "e." Grayscale Wisconsin winters don't get me down. But this week, color started making my heart flit with hope of light-filled days to come. Maybe it's because on Tuesday I saw the sunset on my way home from work for the first time since October, or maybe it's because yesterday I walked my dog whilst wearing a dress and no hat because it was 37 degrees out! Either way, my jewelry picks for the Friday Highlights from the Subscriber Gallery are little slices of color heaven. (For even more evidence of my recent color obsession, read my post about the January 2010 issue of Art Jewelry).
This bronze clay hair pin's patina doesn't come from chemicals. According to metal clay artisan Lydia Lewis, the activated carbon in the kiln did all the work during the firing process. Don't you just love it when things work out beautifully?
Erna's silver flower brooch is the perfect symbol of spring to me right now. I love the bursting petals, and, besides being my favorite color, the green enameled center reminds me that I'll soon be picnicking in a warm, lush park.

To color her copper Hawaiian Christmas Ornament, Regina Rose used Prismacolor colored pencils and dichroic glass. It's nature in Technicolor!
Many thanks to these artisans for the preview of spring.
