Friday Highlights from the Subscriber Gallery: Round 5: Jill's choice

  racing octupi

I am keying this in as I anticipate a short vacation to Florida. Which probably explains my first choice: "Racing Octopi Pin" posted by Brad Elfrink, aka buttoncarver.  I'm a sucker for cephalopods, and this trio carved from vintage Bakelite is fantastic.

We now journey from the ocean depths to the night sky. I couldn't resist posting Kent Synder's red brass pins. The owl's tube-set peepers add a note of whimsy to a classic motif.

And to round out our animal theme, how about iris09's hand forged copper snake bangle? Iris used hefty 4 gauge copper to make this statement piece.

I hope you enjoyed my picks for this round. As always, we invite Subscribers to upload images of your work to the Subscriber Gallery. Just be sure to register on our Web site -- it's free and quick, and we don't share your info with anyone! Cheers,  Jill  :)

Hi Jill, guess I'm doin' somethin' right to make your blog! Being a woodsman I never get tired of seeing the wise old owl in the forest , an inspiration for the pin.

Hi Jill, it's nice to be noticed. Red brass a favortite metal of mine. Lots of my pieces inspiration comes from time spent in the woods & out fishing.

Thank you for selecting my piece - I am very encouraged because I've only been doing this for a few months.

About Jill Erickson

I joined the Art Jewelry staff in March, 2006 as an Associate Editor. The time really does fly around here. It doesn't get much better than working with artists, authors, fun co-workers and looking at jewelry all day. Another bonus to magazine work is the opportunity to attend jewelry shows and conferences -- I truly look forward to these "field trips" and the chance to meet and talk with our readers and contributors.
