Correction to a story in our July 2010 issue

In the project, “Expand Your Polymer Skills with a Savvy Stretch Bracelet” [July 2010], our instructions call for SoftGlass tubing with a 1.5mm Inside Diameter (ID). The author, Helen Breil, learned that the manufacturer of SoftGlass updated their product; the tube opening is now smaller, making stringing the elastic impossible given the original instructions. Breil has found a workaround by using cyanoacrylate glue to adhere the elastic to .018 in. diameter beading wire. Our sincere apologies to our readers and to Ms. Breil for failing to make this correction prior to the issue going to print.

Perhaps I'm dense but I just can't visualize the "work-around" solution.  Please enlighten me

    Thanks

    Pat,

I'll do my best to explain this!

The elastic cord will fit through the SoftGlass tubing, but stringing the elastic through the tubing is challenging. Helen learned that by using cyanoacrylate glue to attach a piece of stiff beading wire to the end of the elastic cord makes it much easier to thread the elastic through the tubing. She uses the stiff beading wire as if it were kind of like a long needle.

I hope that makes sense! Thank you for posting a request for clarification. I'm sure there are others out there who were also trying to picture this workaround!   Jill
