    Scratched Bench Block

My bench block has some scratches, mostly from before I was consistently being careful about filing and smoothing wire ends before hammering.  Some of the scratches are big enough to transfer marks to wire.

I have a Dremel with various polishing pads, steel wool, and an assortment of automotive sandpaper, rouge cloth and sunshine cloth.  Are any of theese like to be sufficient to polish the marks out of the block?

Ah, now here's something I can help with!

We've already written up a quick article on how to take care of just that problem.

Click here to learn how to remove scratches and polish your bench block.

Hope that helps, and Happy Friday!

    Re: Scratched Bench Block

I just cleaned up all my bench blocks the other day - like Art Jewelry's article provided by Addie, I use sand paper.  I have an electric pad sander and I started with 220 grit and worked up to 600 grit, followed up with tripoli.  I like using the pad sander for the bench blocks because it's flat and I can be sure that I'm sanding flat.  Be sure to wear eye protection and a good mask.  Easy, albeit a messy job.
