    (Unfinished) Haiku necklace

Here's a piece I've been working on for a couple of weeks now. I got the piece of glass from the beach where I live and reshaped it, slightly. The leaves each have a word which reads as a piece of Haiku poetry. I need to shape the leaves over my neck mandrel so they conform to the shape of the neck area better and I'll finish off the venal engraving and soften the edges of each leaf a little more.

    That's neat!

    What is "venal engraving"?

This is absolutely outstanding.  As I peruse forums, looking at the showcase threads... I love seeing all the color and the different beads and the neat designs... but then once in a while I come across something that really jumps out... this is one of those pieces.

    Bravo!

    Thank-you for the lovely compliment.

Venal engraving is the engraving of the veins for the leaves, in greater detail. At the moment, they are only scribed out, they need more definition. I'll also solder the rings closed after I finished giving the leaves a light hammering to shape them better.

    Haiku necklace

I finally finished the piece, except for running over it with rouge to give it a final polish, which I'll do on Wednesday.

The Haiku poem reads: At silent noontide, far across the flower fields, hear the sighing sea.

I soldered all of the large rings and modified the pendant piece slightly from my original picture. I'm glad it's finished and I will probably take it down to the local artsy crafy store and see if they'll flog it for me.

Each leaf is individual and has tool marks etc. as no leaf in nature, is identical to another. The leaves are 16G Sterling SIlver. The clasp is handmade and only the jump rings (20G 5mm, 18G 6.5mm, 20G 4 and 3.25mm and 20G 2.5mm) are not handmade. The components are all Sterling Silver. The sea glass was found, reshaped very slightly and drilled by me.

     Great job

you really find out a nice design, looks like it fall perfectly on a neck!

you just give me an idea of a wire patern, let me draw it down!

Like the fact that you took the crystal of the beach, i love to use things i found, it give a particular felling when your working with them.

I absolutely adore this! Beautifully done! It is especially wonderful that you've taken a pic of how it drapes on the wearer's neck - what a gorgeous line.......
