    Unknown Dremel bits/brushes

I have a couple of Dremel rotary grinders and lots of bits for them,I use them mostly for woodworking and rough metal working - not jewelry. I'm just going through all my tools to see what I can use and I have a lot of bits/brushes/polishers that have never been used.

What are the following used for?

    round wire brushes brass

    round wire brushes steel

    round wire brushes fibre

different shaped rotary bits - white felt

rubber (my guess - it feels like hard rubber) bits, different shapes, lots of plain cylinders around 1/4" and 3/32", also cylinders with pointy ends, truncated cones, disks, different colors, black, dark brown, orange brown, grey and green - my guess is that the color indicates how hard they are and that they are used for some kind of polishing work

BobR,I have a small reference guide titled "Making the Most of Your Flex-Shaft" by Karen Christians that sits on my bench for identifying & using different bits optimally, you may find a similar Dremel guide.Wire brushes are used for texturing metal, natural brushes are for buffing, felt wheels are used for buffing, and Poly wheels are used for the final stages of polishing. There are of course smaller bits shaped specifically to get in smaller spaces & do the same functions above. Metal bits are used for drilling & piercing and 3M radial discs are used for removing fire scale, evening out scratched surfaces & removing solder fillets.

I’ve also seen many artists adopt bits for different purposes than originally intended to replace larger, more expensive tools. My first instructor told me our flex shaft is the most utilized tool on her bench & the same is true for me!

The brass brush is used to scratch the workpiece with soap and water after soldering to clean the workpiece, and in preparation for polishing. But here at Dremelmotor fairly useless, since it splash far too much.

The steel wire brush is also used to remove impurities. You can also the use the brush to matting the metal surface. If you change the grinding direction, you can create a stripe pattern on the metal surface. Such brushes are also  as a pot brush available. With this you can  round patterns create.

The fever brush is suitable for gentle cleaning of surfaces and also together with polishing paste for polishing of inaccessible interior angles.

The felt brushes are together with polishing paste to polish the metal surface.

The rubber disks are, as you write for grinding and polishing. The colors shows how coarse or fine they are. Look at a goldsmith tool supplier page. I think you’ll find the color code.
