    Welcome!

Hello everyone — I hope you're enjoying our new site. Please do let us know about any glitches; it's a new system, so we'll be working the kinks out for a bit.

One of the main goals for the new site was improved communication... now, there are several different ways for you to connect with the editorial staff, depending on your personal preferences. The new blog will be updated regularly, and will provide a chance for us to share what we're up to, and for you to respond to us. If you'd rather not contact us "publicly," there's still the "contact the editor" link under the "magazine" menu. And, of course, you're welcome to post questions and comments here. I know the "to the Art Jewelry editors" area on the last forum was a bit slow; there, we were sort of flooded out by the overall bead-centric-ness of the forum. (Not that we don't love our sister bead titles, but AJ has its own niche.)

With the new forum, I think it'll be easier for the AJ editors to keep track of questions, and answer them quickly. I hope you all have fun!

    Re: Welcome!

    Hi Hazel,

Glad to see the new forum. One glitch I can see so far. As I am going down the page through the posts, the farther down I scroll, the more I am losing the first words and letters of a post. It's as if the message is shifting to the left of the page, cutting off words. Is anyone else having that problem?

    Re: Welcome!

Francesca — I haven't had that problem from my work address, but did notice it when I checked from home last night. I'm not sure what browser you're using, but we have been noticing some problems with Safari (I use Safari at home, and Firefox at work). Your comment has been forwarded to the Web team, and they'll sort things out.

    Re: Welcome!

I've had the same problem, hazel, but only with one (1) post, so far.  It's the one in SUYW from Etherial?  The more I scroll down, the bigger the pix get, until they are lost completely and I get a buncha wierd lines the rest of the post.

I use Firefox (have been for about 5 years) and I haven't had this problem (so far) with any of the other posts I've opened here on the new forum.  hmmmmm....

Elly -- I noticed that same post by Etherial and forwarded it to the Web people this morning, so it's definitely on their list of things to figure out.  It's in the hands of more technical brains than mine!

Hey, just wanted to let you know....I started a new thread in "how you unleash creativity" but on the open forum page it says there are no threads on that topic...what happened?? I clicked on " how you unleash creativity" and my thread is there, so that part worked, thank goodness. LOL

    Re: Welcome!

I really like the new forums, and I'm especially happy that there is a specific room now for chainmaille, yay! The only thing I've encountered which may not be a glitch at all but is still a little annoying, is that if someone posts a large picture their post suddenly has a scroll bar at the bottom and I have to scroll back and forth and back and forth to read everything. Not a big deal really, just a little cumbersome is all.

The only other thing I would say is that the ads on the right side of the forums are HUGE, they take up nearly 1/3 of the screen it seems like and gives the forums (to me) a very cluttered feel. It's almost like being on someones free Geocities web site where every time you hit a link you're directed to a new page with those ungodly huge ads for Yahoo! sponsored search sites on the right side. I know the ads are in line with the sizing used for the links to your personal profile and the search function, I guess I just think all of that could be sized down and look a lot better. It's obviously not a functionality issue, just an aesthetic one, and I'm sure once I get used to it I won't even really notice it anymore or won't really care.

I really do love the new forums though, good work and thank you!

    Re: Welcome!

     Hello Hazel ...

So far I am undecided about the new layout ..

One thing that is very bothersome is the colour of the threads - the greyish/blue .. makes reading text straining .. white is proven to be the easiest on the eyes (and mine aren't THAT old ;)

I also used to sign on every morning and click on the unread from my last log on, now I see this forum has the unread but it is all just a big list by date, not category as well?? Am I missing it?  I don't want to go through the categories that are not that much interest to me .. Also, if I only have a bit of time I will go to the categories in the unread, that interest me first ..  IF this is not available is there anyway you can show the time of the last log-in?  This way you can just go to the topics that interest you and check the posts from the date/time you last logged on ..

Good luck at your end - hopefully the changes will be welcomed by all eventually ..

    Re: Welcome!

Please - just end our suffering and go back to the old format!  It wasn't broke, and it didn't need fixing!  (Except for the "search" function.)

Next time, ask the people who use the forum if they WANT the change.

    Re: Welcome!

I use Internet Explorer. I notice that the problem was fixed when I signed in today.

Another comment I'd like to make is that I find the color scheme easier on the eyes than white, which can be glaring. The teal/ grey color has a clean look to it and I really like the look.

    Hi, frozen!

I was curious...which problem was fixed?

Also, I don't find a problem with the "colors" at all, especially since they only "surround" the post (ya know, on the left and top portion) or are on the Main forum (name) for each section, right?  (or am I not seeing this as others are????)
