Hello there!

Can anyone tell me what I have to do to silver to get a surface like this?

As I have joined a workshop now I do have access to a rolling mill, but I don't know what to put in it to get an impression like this. I read somewhere about using pattern strips. Is it possible to buy something that could be used then please tell me!

 That looks like you could get it with sandpaper.

COARSE sandpaper maybe. Mine often comes out much more 'frosted' looking than that when I do sandpaper...I'm not sure what I've done would take the LOS like that - so pronounced. Maybe I should try!

 Sand paper for sure, but I forget as a metal smith sometimes there are more abrasive papers then the wet/dry ones I use for metal, I've rolled through abrasives for wood, and the good parts of damaged sanding belts. 60 and 80 grit work fairly well.

I can tell you about a somewhat similar ring that I have made (see the wide wedding ring on my site).

I used a pattern wheel with my rolling mill and then filed off a top layer to give it a more vague texture.

I have tried some pattern sheets, but I don't think they were actually made for use by a rolling mill. The ones I tried were made of brass and I think they were actually a material meant to create things from. Do you know where I can get pattern sheets that are actually made for being used with a rolling mill?
