    Next Bead Swap!

I am more then willing to be the swap mistress on the next one.  Do we want to stay with the seasons and do winter next?  If not, some one else gets to pick the theme!

I have a whole month off between December and January but I think with all the Holidays that might make things to stressfull.  How do you think about a deadline in the middle of February?

I know that it is only September but time flys when you are in school!  There is never enough of it to go around.  Think about it,  I say that we don't shut off the sign up until the end of October.  That would give us three monthes to   ,yell and be.  While planning what to take to the in-laws, parents or wherever you go!  (I am personally looking for a warm private beach- with a few cabana boys thrown in!)

Oh, Mollie... what are you taking in grad school?  I just started my Masters in Education.

sure, I am ok with a deadline of mid-Feb. that gives people a ton of time. I would not think about it until January. Winter theme ok but would not mind other ideas.

I'm fine with a winter theme, or any other idea we can all agree upon. We actually get blossoms start to appear in winter, so it's not really that limiting.

The mid-Feb deadline and winter theme sound good to me!

    I'm SOOOOOOOOOOO in!!!!!

The February deadline would be perfect for me! Like Helen, I'm off of school from just before Christmas until mid January, so that will give me plenty of time to work. Winter theme would be fine, but let me throw out a suggestion ... what about a more limited color theme ... like blues and neutrals (white, black, tans, etc.)? Any way we go, I still wanna play! Can I sign up for the warm beach + cabana boys too?

Helen, how ironic! My undergrad major was Education & Art. I'm in an art jewelry/metalsmithing program and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! My first critique of the semester will be Oct 16, so somewhere around then I'll post pics in SUYW.

I like that idea of limiting colors.  I thinking that blue and silver with neutrals might be a good group to work with if we do a winter theme.

    Any other theme ideas?

Mollie, I can't wait to see your stuff!  I keep thinking of heading for the art building and "hanging" out there.  I have a friend who graduated from the college that I am attending with a degree in Art Education, she gives me all kinds of ideas and who to "hang" out with.  I agree, it is totally the best to be in school.

The thing is, you can really do whatever you like. Blue can be pale, cobalt, turquoise or nearly green. Add a bit of black to a color and it's a neutral. Don't like silver? Use gold or copper and we'll be happy anyway.

Just as long as it isn't yellow/black or red/green.

    Re: Next Bead Swap!

    Repeated from previous thread:

If we want to do another swap, may I suggest a way?  Everyone make a set of 8 beads, send them to the coordinator, and get back another set of beads.  Send 5 sets, get 5 back. That way everyone only has to make a set of 8 beads.  Or two.  Or 3.  Etc.  I participated in this kind of swap on another board last year, and I got some really fantastic stuff.

We could limit the color scheme as suggested, too.

    Re: Next Bead Swap!

Jackie, let me see if I understand correctly:

Let's say there are 16 participants:

If I send 5 beads, I get 5 back...not necessarily one from each of the 16 and probably not one of my own.

If I send 16 beads, I get 16 back...one from everyone, including my own.

If I send 20 beads, I get 20 back...one from everyone, and the rest are my own (5).

I can see where this has merit. Anyone can join in without everyone else having to up their bead output. You can make as many as you are able.

However, it seems more of a logistical deal for the person receiving them all and sending them back.

Personally, I would  like to get a bead from everyone again.

I liked it the way we did it last time. Make one for everybody and get one from everybody.

I like how it turned out this last time too, so my vote is to keep it that way.

Speaking of which, I've been on a blue/silver tear over the weekend. It reminds me a bit of yellow/black, without the inherent ugliness. You can try lots of techniques without going off on color tangents.

Well, it seems we were leaning toward blue/silver with neutrals. Fortunately, there are a million blues, one just right for everyone.

    Re: Next Bead Swap!

Here is what I have so far.

We will be doing a bead for each person in the swap.  The color theme will be blue and silver with neutrals added if we like.

The deadline for getting the beads to me is the middle of Feb.  Sign up is to be done by Halloween (October 31).

So far I have: Justbarrettes, Jilla, Linelle, Stacy615, SparkleBee, MollieM, Wadham 97, LCD.

Jackie,  we also can do a bead set swap as well with different deadlines and such.  I do like getting one specially made bead from everyone but I like the idea of bead sets as well.

    Re: Next Bead Swap!

Tell you what. For anyone who would like to swap bead sets, I'll be glad to host it.  Helen, you got it. Linelle, guess you didn't.  Let me rephrase - you send in a set of 8 beads, presumably matching or similar.  You get back another set of 8 beads.  You send in 5 bead sets, you get back 5 bead sets.   I sent in 5, but thorough a misunderstanding I only got back 4.  But they were beautiful, and I've really enjoyed using them.  So anyone who would enjoy this, I will start another thread for it.

Just a suggestion for this swap - it might be better if we set some parameters for size - say, between 10 and  20 mm.

    Re: Next Bead Swap!

I would do a bead set swap too, why not? Can all the bead sets be the same? I would not want to have it due until January. If it's a bead set does the size matter, as long as they are a set? I might want to make a bunch of beads with a larger pendant or focal. How do you decide who gets which set? Let's say there are a few fabulous sets and a bunch of mediocre ones? Who gets which?
