    Stones that can be tumbled

I thought we could start a list of what gemstones we have tumbled so that the others know that it's safe to do so.

I just got my tumbler and I've only used it once, so I will be of not much help to this list yet!

I tumbled some labradorite for about 30 mins and it handled it very well.

    Whats stones have you tumbled?

    Tumbled something new!

Chinese Amazonite and Synthetic Opal did very well in the tumbler... I was crossing my fingers the whole time though, that might have helped ;)  I tumbled only for 30 mins

I just got my tumbler too and it's so gentle I've been able to tumble just about everything with the exception of turquoise and even that didn't come out too badly. I got a KG-1 mini sonic vibratory tumbler so I think that's why I was able to tumble so many stones without damage, I'm not sure how they'd all go in rotary so please don't go putting these stones in your rotary based on what has worked for me. anyway the stones I tumbled successfully without any damage were, labradorite, amethyst, Australian boulder opal, even amber, freshwater pearl and paua shell all came out fine, I was amazed. I used stainless steel shot and about a teaspoon of baking powder, I was soo impresssed with the results, a great shine on the silver and no damage to the stones!!! Anyway as I experiment with more I post here what works and what doesn't.

Great thread to start by the way, it's good to get some info on what can and can't be tumbled safely.

    Cheers

Thanks for replying! I do think we can all learn through each others trial and error!

Haven't tumbled anything new yet... I'm working on some orders and none so far need tumbling ;/ I want to use my new "toy" again lol
