    re-fire or solder

I created a piece, fired it then decided to attach a "u" shaped bail to the underside-re-fired it with the new bail.

well, it popped off. Should I re-fire it witha tube bail(fine silver) with a flap of pmc over it for a secure old.

    fire at 1650.

OR solder teh bail with easy paste solder..I haven't done this before..but have help if this is right way to go.

I need this oiece for a jury next week!! eeks!

    thanks,

I've had this happen too. Since I don't solder, I just reattached the bail with oil paste, let it dry completely and refired. They have held up beautifully. No need to use sterling silver, just attach the fired bail. Alice

    Thanks for the reply.

I don't have oil paste. I use pmc3 (I'm not sure if they have an oil paste) can just use slip..I thought I would amke a flap to ensure a strong hold.

Let me know what you think!

    Re: re-fire or solder

I've applied dried PMC3 to an already fired piece ( a ring) with just the paste. Rough up the surface first, apply paste and attach the bail. Let dry completely and fire for 2 hours instead of 10 min.or so. I've had no trouble with the ring. Also, I understand you can make oil paste by adding a few drops of lavendar oil to PMC3 paste. Don't know the amount since I've never made it, but hear it is a viable alternative to buying oil paste. Art clay silver makes oil paste but it can be used with fired PMC products. Alice
