    First Netted Ring

I've been so busy over the last week I've hardly even thought about making jewelry.  However, I've been so good about posting on time in the Year of Jewelry Project every week that I didn't want to break my run ... so I threw this ring together lastnight.  It's a small netted turquoise cabochon with a woven ring band.  I thought it would be cool to taper the band but in retrospect I wish I hadn't.  Ahhh well.  It still looks pretty good, me thinks. :)  If I make another one I will not taper the band, however.  I worked in a khaki Swarovki to try to match the greenish-brown tones in the stone but I don't think it matched too well after all.  That'll teach me to work in dim lighting. :P

    Thanks for looking!

I really like it! I think it's very clever and I love the way you have adapted your netting technique for a ring.

I've found that the color that matches the best out of swarovksi is Erinite.

This is a great piece Delia. I love the turquoise cab and the way it was set on top of the ring.. I can tell you have become an expert of this netted technique

Drat... you know I had some erinite on hand too!  Never even thought about using it.  I bet it would have gone well with this though.

Thanks for the kind words on the ring.  I made experimentation with ring making a goal for this year since it seems to be my weakest point.  I can probably count on both hands how many rings I've made over the years.  Seriously.  Well, okay ... not counting simple bead rings. :)  But for some reason I just have had an aversion to ring making ... I hope to change that this year though.  I guess I'm off to a pretty decent start. :)

Thanks Collette :)  I am totally addicted to the needle lace technique.  It's just so much fun I can't help myself.

Thanks Laura :)  I am glad that I keep getting good feedback on the crystal ... I have been vacillating back and forth on whether or not I like it since I put it there.  LOL  I do wish the color was a little more complimentary, but at least it's a reasonable match. :)

    Thanks for looking. :)

Hi Delia!!! That is a great ring, with the netting. I have a suggestion -- why don't you make leave a giant hole in the netting, so that you can see the stone a little bit better?

That could be a cool variation on this one.

    Eni,

Great minds think alike!  I had already decided to do that on my second one.  I'm using a piece of golden flash labradorite and I wanted the flash to jump out.  I was afraid if I netted over it all that the gold flash would be too subdued, and we can't be having that. :)  I like the look of windows worked into the netting.  At any rate, I will share when it's done. :)

Thanks for the comment, Eni. ;)

Oh great, I can't wait to see it.... It's just a pity to have the stone so covered up.

Originally I intentionally covered this stone up because while it had pretty blue greens at the top and the bottom the whole middle section was an unimpressive brown color that wasn't very flattering.

I'm having a little trouble netting the labadorite with the caged needle lace work.  The stone doesn't have enough of a curve to hold it well enough ... I'm going to give it one more shot and if I can't get it to net firmly then I'll probably switch to a netted bezel approach.

Wish me luck!  And thanks again for the feedback. ;)

Thanks Danika :)  My obsession with this technique just won't let go.   I guess this is a good thing though.  At least, good things continue to come from it, so I'm just rolling with it.

I'll share the labradorite ring as soon as I get it done.  I haven't had much time to work on it the last couple of days.  I'll have some time over the weekend though, so hopefully I'll get it done then.

    Thanks for the comment. :)

    Re: First Netted Ring

Hey Delia! I love your ring, very unique, and the stone looks like it is set very securely. Y'know..if you used a dark stone (probably more angular in shape) and had a wide ring shank all around, that would really look good as a man's ring.

I always love looking at your stuff :)
