    How much Metal Clay

    Hi Everyone,

I'm soooo excited, I've purchased all the basic equipment to start making Metal Clay Jewellery and when I get paid on Friday I can finally go out and buy some PMC.

My question is how much clay is used to make a ring and a pendant. I realise this will depend on the design etc. but a rough idea is all I need. I want to make sure I purchase enough to make a few small pendants and maybe a ring.

    Thanks

    Wendy

    Hi Wendy!

A 10g pack of Art Clay Silver Slow Dry will make 1-3 pendants, depending on the size.  I've gotten 6 small flowers, in three sizes, out of a pack to make a pair of earrings.

A 10g pack will easily make a ring. Rings are a little more advanced.....

PRACTICE with polymer clay first (I've always used Sculpey, but Sparklebee mentioned a "mushy" clay that might work, too!)

Looking forward to seeing your creations.

For my classes, I reduced the size requirements down from 16g to 10g of PMC3 (because of cost).  With 10g, I can make a quarter size pendant with some left over for earrings....or a ring.

Of course, you know that with all your supplies, it isn't really going to matter, right?  That as soon as you start making stuff, you are going to want to buy in bulk!  I usually buy in packs of 10g (because I can resell to my students, and because I don't have a huge pack sitting open on my work table for very long).
