Hi!

I've redesigned my image since I've started making more expensive stuff, to make it all seem higher-end. So now I have a doubt. I had thought about making earring cards because it would be so much easier to put prices on and to keep both earrings together, and since the new tags I've made would look huge compared to some earrings. But I am starting to think that maybe having earring cards will not help at all from the "high-end" look I'm trying to achieve. The presentation may look too much like the fashion jewelry you can get at claire's and not like real jewelry...

What do you think??
 

I don't know what you consider "high-end", but I put my earrings on cards.  Mine run $40 - $50 and I put them on better looking cards that I get from Rio.  Otherwise how are you going to "put prices on and to keep both earrings together". 

I only do a couple shows a year, but when I do, I am able to hang the cards on a display I bought years ago.

 

 

I think if you use high quality cardstock, that along with your great logo should make your presentation high class.  Personally, I think the plastic and flocked earring cards that are available for purchase scream Walmart to me.  I'll bet if you did a side-by-side test at a high end show, people would be drawn to the pieces on handmade cards, as long as the cards were well made.  Alice

Have you tried earring stands in different shapes? They don't cost a fortune. It will pay off. You can use them for the most valuable earrings that you have and for the rest use good quality cards.

I agree - high quality card stock and go for it.  I was at a high end show last weekend and I noticed one thing about cards - play with the size a bit because if they are too big the jewelry gets lost as soon as you get more than a couple feet away.  Plus if you make them standard sizes they should fit most display racks pretty well.

IMHO:  Earring cards are like boxes of candy.  Expensive candy comes in a plain box, whereas cheap candy comes in an ornate box.  This is a story told in many marketing classes.  You are trying to sell earrings, not the cards they come on.  Therefore simplest may be best.  I cannot see spending a lot of time on something that will be thrown away, rather than on the product itself. 

 

Hi all! Thanks for your replies! Bob I like your comparison with a box of candies. I think I'm gonna go for it and also use the suggestion of using earring stands for the higher priced ones. I think I have like 20 of those things in black velvet.

My first year I did not use cards, but had a hard time keeping them together and the price on them. So then I started making my own cards, they have come along way now. I am tired of making my own and got them done on a nice shiny business card stock (thicker) and they look much nicer now and I don't have to worry abou them at the humid outdoor shows I do. But I got 1,000 of these and 1,000 of just the top portion for my necklaces and bracelets for under $70. I am just glad I don't have to do it anymore. On the back side, I put those little plastic sticker hangers and right down what they are made of, how much they are, and their item number for inventory purposes. I also sell in a shop on our historic square, so these look very nice compared to the other jewelry the owner purchases for the shop. Hope it helps. My earrings are not high end, my most expensive pair were $27.

Hi all!

I ended up making them. I designed them and then had them printed in a very nice textured kimberly thick paper. I like how they turned out, and people have seemed to like them too. They make it sooo much easier to keep both pieces together, for pricing and for transporting. The only thing is, i don't know if I would want to have them in the earring cards for my own shows. I like to have a nice setup, where each piece is like a piece of art. I don't want to have a bunch of earrings on earring cards laying on the table, and I don't want to use the carousels either. But well, it's going to be a few months since i have to worry about that!

I want to show you the pics of my earring cards but I have no camera today. As soon as I get it, I'll take pics of them and post them

Did you cut these all out yourself.  I want to get my newly designed cards printed but it takes so long to cut them all out.  It would be nice to find someone who printed them, cut them, and put the earring holes.  Wishful thinking, maybe.....

I had them cut at the same place I had them printed. They also did the folding on the tag and the hole for the ribbon. They charged extra for that, but I paid gladly... it is a P in the a to cut, fold and punch... I did have to make the earring holes myself because they didn't have a punch that was small enough and also i like that depending on the earrings I can put the holes in different positions.
