    Melting Sterling Silver Casting Grain

    I would like to know if U can melt Sterling Silver Scrap or Grain with a Butane torch that ranges up to 2500? I have never melted SS , Thanks So Much,

    Butane will melt small amounts of silver, i.e., jump rings, etc.  To melt larger amounts you need not only temperature, but a sufficient quantity of heat.  In general, a butane torch just cannot deliver enough heat, even though its temperature is above the melting point of silver, to melt a significant quantity of silver.

    You might get by with a hand held propane torch but a MAPP gas torch would be more likely to get the job done. I use a Presto-lite acetylene torch with the biggest tip for casting purposes.

    i just have the following information about Sterling Silver Casting Grain.

    Sterling Silver Casting Grain Melting Range is 805-890 degrees C, density is 10.3 gms per cubic centimetre. Casting temperature range is 960-1040° C. Nominal Cast Hardness is HV: 75
