Gee, I really LIKE that cane. I immediately thought it cried out for repetition though... in a row or grid or pie shape, e.g.
It has strong enough graphic elements and enough brightness in the turquoise and orange to contast with the purple, and the fact that it has a "wrap" of sorts around the outside makes for a great candidate for repetition.
I probably would have reshaped it into a square cane, reduced it, cut in 4 lengths, then rejoined those lengths as a 2x2 grid ...then applied those to a base sheet, or repeated the cuts/rejoins, to make a larger grid.
The result would make a great pattern sheet for cutting out shapes for pendants, or just good backgrounds (especially if reduced enough) for other things like onlays, etc., or would be good for covering larger dimensional beads or tube beads (big enough ones so the pattern could be seen).
A row of those slices would make a good "framing" element for something else too.
Or you could make a radial pattern instead of a grid by making the cane triangular first and then doing the reducing and cutting (rejoining them all-tips-to-center, rather than side by side) to make a "kaleidoscope" type pattern for a pendant.
(A grid pattern would also make a good mini-bowl for holding earrings, etc., or be good for covering a pen or something else.)
Too bad it's all gone
