    Blacksmithing

Since there are such wonderful pictures with Jaclyn Davidson's interview I though that I would post some links to resources for forging. The first requirement is fire and while you may want to use a coal or charcoal forge there is always another alternative. The coffee can forge http://www.zoellerforge.com./coffee.html  uses a three pound coffee can and a propane atmospheric burner. With this little can you can almost reach welding temperature to make Damascus steel for your jewelry. Another source for information is http://www.abana.org/ which is the national organization for Artist Blacksmith Association of North America. The last site I will recommend is www.iforgeiron.com . Here is forum made up of cranky old men and some very good artists.

Your posts are very interesting, especially the link in this one which I just spent over an hour looking through. The Smithys & Workshop photos are great fun to view! I am so envious of all the tools. I did find some similarities in my workshop to the photos posted. I have a quench bowl versus a quench tank, LOL

Thanks for sharing all your interesting contacts! Tink

One can certainly covet their neighbors forge at the I Forge Iron site. It that a sin? If it is I'm in real trouble. I'm sort of at that stage in life where I just don't have the time (or money) to go and try all the things I want to or buy all the tools that I want to but with the small gas forge it sure is tempting to try the steel jewelry. I have a nice 125# anvil but no good source of heat. Just a few scrap of ceramic insulation and I'm cooking again.

I came across this fellows site today and I think that it is worthy of your examination. He makes tools for the smith and jeweler that are works of art plus art, jewelry, kitchen tools and household objects. http://www.brentbaileyforge.com/home.html  Enjoy!
