I am a hobby jewelry maker, and recently had a male friend ask me to make him a necklace. He is an avid bicycler, so with the sweat factor, leather cord was out. I think a chain mail necklace would be great, but I am not sure which design. It would need to lay flat, not catch on any little neck hairs, and he would like to have a cross pendant hanging from it. Any suggestions?
Thanks so much!

The grille used to cover an air duct in a Park Avenue mansion. There were little squares of colored glass, each mounted in a little square frame, linked together with chain mail.

(Hard to describe. Wish I knew how to download a picture from a DVR.)

Wonder why they used glass, since the air duct would not be lighted.

has anyone ever used welder?

Hello Everyone!

I am wondering if anyone ever tried or maybe still using any welder to
solder chain links?

if - yes, would you please share your opinion on it? I am considering to use
either lampert's PUK3
professional plus:

http://www.lampert.info/Lampert_TOOLS_USA/puk3_professional_plus.php

or

new lampert's competitor Orion PA 230:

http://www.sunstonespotwelders.com/pulse-arc-welders.php

any input would be appreciated!

There reason I am going to use one of these is because I started making
chain link based jewelry out of silver and turned out ( because of silver's
extremely good heat conductive ability) traditional torch cannot be used. so I
started looking for alternative and... laser is too expensive... so arc welder
is coming into play.

if anyone has any experience with either of these welders and could share it
- it would be wonderful

Or maybe anyone is using ( or used in the past) any other welders? or
anything else...?

thank you very much in advance.

I eventually figured it out on my own.

Now that I know how to make the weave, I went back to the book to see where I had interpreted the instructions incorrectly. But...I still cannot get from illustration 1 to illustration 2!

Is there an error in one of the illustrations? I would swear that the first three links are topologically different in the two illustrations.

IT didnt look so complicated... it looked as it was a 2 strand braid... structurally i could see there were 2 size rings. some big ones and then the smaller ones where the ones that spiraled, and then again some big ones and so on.

Cab anyone understand what Im saying?? Im sorry for not being so explicit.. I've tried looking for a pic of something similar but I havent found anything...

If anyone can help me out, I really appreciate it.
I'm new to chain maille but I just LOVE it and I'm already addicted! I found a site with a tutorial for a weave called spiral?

http://www.gossamerwingsdesigns.com/Jump-Rings-Chain-Maille.htm

just scroll down a smidgen and it says Page 16: How to Do Chain Maille Weaves...click on that one and you will find the spiral tutorial when you click on #2 and it's the regular spiral not the locked spiral.

Here's my problem...I can't get the weave to stay a spiral. If I hold each end, it will stay, but if I let go of it...it doesn't seem to want to stay a spiral. Can anybody help me out with this? Thanks!

do I need special tools for chain maille?

Hi everybody,

I've hanging for a jump ring maker for years now but being in Australia it's really expensive for both the Jump Ringer and the Pepe model and by the sounds of it the Koil Kutter is the perfect thing at the perfect price but HOW DO I GET IT? Any help on this would be soooooo appreciated.

Thanks

Molly

New tutorial - Elfsheet Expansion

Evening all,

I just posted a new tutorial, for Expanding Elfsheet on mah site, at http://cgmaille.com/tutorials/elfexpansion.shtml

Enjoy and use for lots of creative masterpieces!

-phong

hi guys, new to art jewellery, from nomad jewellery

hi guys im steve from the u.k ,just found art jewellery site whilst browsing ,a most interesting magazine, and a chainmail forum ,now i can chat to people who know what chainmail is,i have a web site www.nomadjewellery.com come have a look
