Hello,

have new installed the “Kaspersky Security CBE 9” . Since then, I can not upload pictures or Links in the Forum. Can you give me a tip what goes wrong?

International Subscriptions

Hi all,

Not sure if this is in the right place, but I cant seem to find a link in the 'subcribe to the magazine' section for international subscribers. I have a loathsome time finding your magazine in my location in Australia and I would love to just buy a subscription on line (not into sending subscription via mail ;)) so I don't have to worry about putting my flashlight helmeton, heavy terrain boots on and magnifying glass on to find THE best mag in my local newsagencies (whats wrong with our local newsagents! they must be crazy!) :)

Any news on the "blank page" problem?

Do your programmers have any suggestions for users to change local settings or is it a problem at Kalmbach's end?

The problem of the main portions of the screen coming up blank been much worse during the last week of December for me using the latest version of Firefox. The banner and the frame with right hand side ads loads but the page content is blank. It happens something like 1/3 to 1/2 of the time in all 3 forums. I had to press refresh 3 times to get the reply screen to load yesterday.

Apparently the problem of having to refresh every time you select a thread or hit reply has gone away for some members but not for me. It still gets me in all 3 forums, with the latest version of Firefox on 4 different computers with a T1 at work, DSL at home and with wireless and T1 networks in hotels. It eats up 1/3 to 1/2 of the time I spend on the forum, cutting into my willingness to scan all the sections.

If it is a local setting I'd love to understand which setting I can change to reduce the problem. If it is the Community Server forum software it's a serious bug. If they can't fix it maybe Kalmbach should negotiate a refund.

Last month I tried working in the forums with Internet Explorer 6.026 on a T1 connection.

I did NOT have to refresh pages but I did get some very long pauses with just a blue background, then another long pause in a reply while it DL'd the buttons and graphics each time. The forum seemed much slower with IE than with Firefox... but maybe the same time if I counted the time needed to refresh? The T1 at work should be faster than the DSL at home.

The problem of having to log into each forum is another annoying "feature" that continues. Since I access the forums from several computers with different connections it may be a cookie issue. In my case the upper right hand message says Welcome Russ Nobbs so the system recognizes me. However, I have to log out and log in again to post or see "my discussions," This happens when I move from one forum to another and when come direct to a forum. It's very inconsistent. I DO have cookies enabled.

I hope all this information will give some hints to the Kalmbach on line techs. It's an issue that is hurting your forum members and, in the long run, your revenue stream from ads on your sites.

Delay in post showing up

Mostly I'm seeing reasonable speed with this board. However, I'm starting to see a real delay in posts appearing in a thread. I'll write a message, hit Post, and then am returned to the original thread, but no sign of my post. I'll hit Refresh, still nothing. Just when I think I imagined that I posted a reply, it will appear, but not after making me think I am getting seriously senile.

Hi everyone:

I am wiredwrapper and I am new to the forum--I do wire work and would be very interested in doing the free project called TOUGH CUFF--but when I click on the pdf link it just opens a blank page with an error sign bottom left corner--can you tell me what I am doing wrong--I have adobe reader version 5 on my computer--do I need to upgrade this version?

I tried to post a picture to the Metal Clay section and it's never showed up. If I look in the Manage Photos portion of "My Profile" it shows up three times as a question mark and says that it's status is pending. Could you please delete all three since they aren't showing as pictures and tell me if there's a better way to load them. I originally did it from my computer, but maybe I should have hosted them at a third party website first. Please help! Jennifer

Who oh why do we have to constantly subjected to the same annoying ads all the time?!?!? The flash stuff drives me nuts. And the worst is when I resize a picture to see the full image, THE ADS COVER PART OF THE PICTURE! If we wants tons of ads, we can look at the magazine. The Old Forum was mercifully free of junk.

Hey, I've been having major problems trying to post replies. It's taken me way more than a dozen very frustrating attempts to get this question posted. When I start to type, the letters turn into something like bar code. NO LETTERS! The side columns are then squiggles & more bar code w/ nothing at the bottom of the page that says "POST". So what's happening & how do we solve this?

Seriously, the situation has gotten so bad that I'm about ready to quit & switch allegiances to another website. Art Jewelry Forum needs to get its tech problems solved soon or I'm looking elsewhere. I've become one unhappy subscriber. And I'm not trying to be rude, just getting my point across.

blank areas on screen

I've seen this mentioned in other threads and I find it possibly the most annoying characteristic of the new board.

The left 2/3 or 3/4, where threads are listed and where we read/compose messages, can often appear blank. It's necessary to go to the top links to get content back.

Ways this can occur:

1. I've bookmarked the home page for the Art Jewelry forum. On occasion it will load correctly, but mostly it gives me the blank spot on the left.

2. I'll be reading a thread and want to return to the list of threads to select another. If I hit my Back button, a blank spot can appear.

3. Today I posted a comment and then needed to edit it. I hit the Edit button in my own post and got the blank spot.

I'm sure you folks are aware of this already, but figure it helps to know exactly in what context it's happening.

I see that you can do it by issue, but that doesn't really help when you are looking for something specific. Please help!

Lately when I insert a link into my post it goes here:"special page or service message". I think I am doing it properly. I use the link icon and it sure looks like you can click on it but again... all the links take me to that page. Thanks!

I just made a post and noticed that my siggy line doesn't show what I want it to, it is only showing the url's. I am very not so smart when it comes to computer things. Is there anyone who can straighten this out for me pretty please. You can tell me all you want, but it won't help at all. I am still trying to figure out how to use my crosssover cable to get the information from my desktop to my laptop!!!!!

Dear Katie- Could you pass this question along to the programmers please?

Can you program in an easier way for members to add a clickable link in their signature block? The great majority of computer users would prefer not to have to learn programming code, and in my opinion shouldn't have to, to in order to post a "live" link in their signature block.

Also, the new FAQs are a help, but the instructions for posting photo images are not as clear as they could be. There are still almost daily questions from members who are having difficulty posting pictures to the forums.

Thanks for anything you can do to make the forums more user friendly. Rhonda

P.S. Could one or two of you take a "busman's holiday" and come over to the Bead and Button forums and work your magic? We'd love to have some of the category folders that are available on the ArtJewelry forum.

Firefox issues

I can't imagine that I am the only forum subscriber who uses Firefox as their primary browser, but I have to switch to Internet Explorer in order to view the forum. When I try to view the pages in Firefox, I can see the main elements of the portal but not any of the messages. Is there anything that can be done about this?

Mark as read at index level

I know the "mark all as read" option is available on the individual forums but it would be so nice if the same functionality were available at the forum index level (i.e., an option to mark all posts in all forums as read in one action).

Reason: I usually just read selected threads in each forum. Then I have to mark all read in that forum. Repeat for the next forum. Being able to do it at the forum index level after I have browsed everything that interests me would save the time it takes to do this for every forum individually.
