    Filling charms with resin?

Hi everyone!!! I have some gorgeous photo frames charms in sterling silver and some others in brass and I want to fill them with resin, the material used with the scrabble tiles to make pendants. I don't know anything about the use of that material, can I find it colored? Or is there another material for that kind of work? I will apreciate your help!!! Thanks in advance!!! Liz

    Hi Liz,

Check out "The Art of Resin Jewelry" by Sherri Haab. The book covers all kinds of resin info and projects. It's a good one.

    Have fun!

yes, you can find it colored at Rio, otherwise you need to color it yourself (which I much prefer because then I can do it however I want). you might try Magic-Gloss from www.coveredinclay.com because it's much easier than reguaar 2-part resin. it's uv and needs no mixing - cures in the sun. you might search the etsy threads for resin because there are many and a lot of basic info. you could also use Ranger's Glossy Accents or Judikins Diamond Glaze for almost the same look and feel but less difficult.

Oh resin's so much fun!!   But I know it can be a bit overwhelming at first.

You'll most likely want to buy clear resin and then add drops of liquid coloring (sold next to the resin) to tint or color it (they have transparent and opaque). But you can always mix in other things to color it - experiment!

We featured a beginner's article about different ways to use resin in the January 2007 issue of Art Jewelry. Its techniques included a picture on a charm under a layer of resin, a 2-sided window of resin within a frame, and a layered montage built up with resin.

The article's entitled 3 Ways to Use 2-part Epoxy Resin. You can purchase it for download, here.

     Have fun,

Wow thank you all for the answers!!! I live in Venezuela and the only product I can find in here is the two components resin, but I don't know what to use to color it. I would like to buy all the products online, and I'm going to buy the book, I found it at amazon and looked inside it, seems to be very nice.

Thanks again for all your help, if you have another suggestion, please let me know!!!

that is a very good book, and the one that people generally use when learning resin (including myself!) to color the resin you either use specific resin dye, or you can also use mica powders (PearlEx). you can mix in spices too. I use Envirotex Lite and love it, but it is sort of a pain.
