I am a professional industrial designer and fabricator. I began making
lamps and other housewares-type functional art because of my
dissatisfaction with what was commercially available when seeking items
for my own home. The idea of the increase in value of a material as a
consequence of my intervention has always been an idea that inspires my
work.
I
work primarily with metals and composites. The skills I employ to
create the items I offer are the skills I practice every
day at work. I try my best to maintain rigid standards for quality and
nothing leaves my shop until I like it so much I want to keep it myself.
I
believe very strongly in the efficient use of materials. I always think
there is some steel mill worker somewhere shaking his head when I waste
some material because I didn't do the math to minimize my drops when
cutting. He (or she) is probably thinking "You want people to
appreciate what you do? Try showing some appreciation for what I do".
Even my art pieces are created with this principle in mind. I always
try to ask myself if the item I make can be appreciated for long enough
to justify the commitment of the material to it. So, I make my articles
to last, and I try my best to make them beautiful.
I spend most
of my spare time caring for my dogs and cats (I have 7 dogs and 1 cat).
I love art and fabrication, but I REALLY LOVE my dogs and my big, fat
cat. The items I make and sell help to support them and I realize this
while I am working, so you can be certain that plenty of love went into
creating these items.
Please feel free to contact me with any
inquiries about how something is made or with suggestions about how I
may improve my work.
