    Grout!

    Hello !

I actually have two questions .. im confused at what enamelling is ... is it powdered glass and epoxy ? or am i confused ..

Another thing ,,which is kind of odd...there is a really amazing artists Sylvie Lupien who uses cement in her work .. i was wondering if using grout would work the same ..does anyone know anything about that including safety issues ..whether it will work or not ..

    thanks!

Enamel is melted glass - for lack of a better term, you have glass sand that is sifted onto metal and melted in a kiln or using a torch.

I think I read somewhere online, that someone was adding vitreous enamel to resin but I don't remember why. That's a waste of good enamel. Vitreous enamel is glass that can be ground to different mesh sizes or powder form. You sift it onto copper or silver (you can use certain other material) and heat with a torch or in a kiln to fuse it to the metal.

I work with cement and make pendants and components. I'm not real good at posting pictures but here goes. Mortar mixes are easy to work with and that's probably what Sylvie Lupien is using. Andrew Goss does some really neat work and has a book on cement jewelry. I got the book and it's really good. He's in Canada. I'm more organic-botanical than modern. So my leaf is just a mortar carved leaf. Never worked with grout. With any cement mixes you should wear a mask while working with the dry ingredients. I remove my mask once the mix is wet. Grout will get you a greater color choice.

     Hello Sherine,

here the German law definition "What is enamel".

Enamel is an inorganic, preferably glassily solidifying mass, which is melted at temperatures over 550 degrees Celsius on a usually metallic underground (aluminum, steel, copper, silver, gold) and with this a fixed, nearly indissoluble connection is received. Organic masses such as lacquers or plastics, which are applied at temperatures under 550 degrees on the carrier, may not with the term " Enamel " in connection to be brought.
