I am setting up my own jewelry studio this week in one of the rooms in our apartment.  Since it is an apartment, and not a place we own, I can't do any modifications that wouldn't leave the place exactly as it was when I move out.  So my question is, how should I do my ventilation?  There is a window in the room; should I just rig something up with a fan to blow fumes out the window when I'm working?  I'm not sure how to do that exactly, because I don't want to just open the window, especially since it's REALLY hot in the summer, and REALLY cold in the winter here.  Any tips would be much appreciated!! 

I'm making some shots in the dark (I don't have any experience with this), but two possibilities come to mind for me.

- Something similar to a dryer vent going throug a window.  I've seen where they're replaced the glass with a tin-like pane.

- Is there any type of stove hood that you could rig up that has the vent go out the window?  It could be like above where the glass is replaced with a metal pane of some sort.

Like I said, these are just some wildass guesses.

I'm guessing you are setting up an acetyline torch for soldering?  How about an AC unit w/ a strong fan that sits in the window frame w/ the window pushed up?  The sides have wings that slide out to fit your existing window size.  Readily available at Home Depot or Lowe's.  This way you can add to your cooling power in the hot months & use the fan component more in the cold months.  Well, you'd be using the fan all the time when you're working, but at least the unit would block the window from outside cold air in winter.

Or maybe you've already finished your set-up.  Want to share what you used & how it's working for you?
