will 14g sheet of gold melt if torch applied directly to it?

I am trying to solder a sheet of gold onto sterling silver but am afraid of applying the torch directly to the gold sheet.  So what I am thinking of doing is using  very easy solder and applying the heat underneath the silver while not touching the gold with the torch and hopefully the very easy solder will melt maybe that will do it.  Any ideas or suggestions?

Aspin, I never soldered any gold but, its melting temp is way up there past sterling so I would guess the silver is what to worry about melting. easy solder flows around 1100 -1200 approx., gold wont melt till approx. 1650. Doubt if there would be any trouble , maybe others more familar will chime in.

Just work carefully. 14ct gold melts lower (700-800°C) than sterling silver (890°C), so use an easy solder (mp < 650°C) and use a very small flame. You might possible solder in low light so you can see the incandescense color and in dimmed light dull red is about 650°C.
