    Chainmaille Zone

I'm so glad we have a chainmaille area!  When they did the survey I said I thought this would be a helpful addition.  Yeah!!!!!

    Hi All,

I too am glad there is a chainmaille zone. I am a beginner and I'm hoping to find the kind people who helped me before the board changed. Jilla, I think you answered one of my post. I did get those kits and finished both Byzantine bracelets. Now I'm bored with no rings left. I'm thinking about buying the Koil Kutter or the Jump ringer but cannot seem to find the correct e-mail for Dave Arens. Maybe once the board gets going someone will post it. My husband wore his bracelet to work and people are asking about it.

Everyone, if you wanted to start with 10ozs what would you buy and where would you buy it?

    Thanks, Donna

When I get a moment I'll go back into my files - I think I have Dave's email saved somewhere.

Yay for chain maille.  I've become addicted.  Deb, I got Jens Pind finally tonight.  I let it sit for a couple of days, and I got it tonight right away.  It is so easy once you get it started.  Thanks again for your help & inspiration.

Hurray for obsessive chain (I have a little pouch with 2 small pliers and a pill bottle full of rings - nor more boring waits for the doctor/dentist/traveling in the car).  I get a lot of wire from Santa Fe Jewelers Supply - best prices I've found.  Let me know if you find better!  Also, Ring Lord is more expensive but they carry Rose Gold and half hard 12K gold wire.

Okay, this is something that I have wanted to get involved in.  However, I do not know where to begin.  What kind of kit is out there for a beginner.  Is there also a book that is in layman's terms that a beginner could understand.  H E L P P P P P

There is also Golden Maille at: http://goldenmaille.com/ They have yellow and rose gold-filled rings.

Urban Maille also has nice tutorials and kits with well done instructions at: http://urbanmaille.com/default.asp

Golden Maille also sell refill packs for the kits in silver at Urban Maille so they can be worked up in the gold.

I have several kits from Aislyn to learn the basic weaves and then ordered the refill kits from Goldie and combined them to get the mixed metal look I love on all my jewelry.

Hope this is useful to anyone looking to start out in maille jewelry and loves both silver and gold as I do

    Re: Chainmaille Zone

the joann craft store i work at is currently carrying a few chain mail kits for $7.99. these include a euro 4 in 1 necklace, a byzantine bracelet, and japanese 6 in 1 earrings. if your joann doesn't carry them you can get them on-line at : http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.jsp?CATID=cat83844&start=33

i took a chain mail class once and it wasn't until half way through that i realized that "european 4 in 1" wasn't "european foreign one". my learning curve went up dramatically once i caught on that 4 rings went into 1 ring...  i've since discovered i'm not the only one to have made that mistake...

Hi Nana,   Personally I like Spiders rings the best and she is also the cheapest. She has kits available on her website except there aren't any instructions. Spider does offer 2 DVD's that covers the basics and a few tricks .  Here is her website     http://spiderchain.com/

Also here is a website where you can rent the DVD's   http://smartflix.com/store/video/608/Weaving-Silver

    Good Luck,

Reba, thank you for sharing the link to Smartflix.  I had no idea this resource was out there!  I am waiting for delivery of my first rental, Spider's DVD #1.  This is great because I can't afford to purchase a lot of these DVDs or am not sure I want to.  I can rent them and decide from there.

    Thank you!

    Iris

Definitely get Spider's DVDs !! I printed free tutorial after free tutorial and couldn't figure them out. Then I bought both of her DVDs and watched the european 4-in-1... and completely got it in 5 minutes. Each DVD has 6 different chains. I haven't gotten thru them all yet but I'm trying! Angela
