    Anyone else in the Midwest?

I'm seeing people listing a lot of places, but I'm not seeing Midwesterners!!  I know there HAS to be more than just me, right!?!?

I live in Indianapolis, Indiana currently.

Northern Wisconsin here, 1/2 hour away from the Michigan border. Yes, its true,Wisconsinites do measure distance in time rather than miles.

Used to live in Indy, but moved to Lake Santee (near Greensburg) over 20 years ago.  Get to Indy about once a month, and of course will be at the Gem/mineral show in Greenfield next Friday.  I do fabricated Sterling and cut my own cabs.

I live in Kansas.  I'm not up to par with the talented artists on this form (more Bead & Button level) but still enjoy looking here for inspiration!  Alice

Re: Anyone else in the Midwest?

What I love about the term 'Midwest" is the territory that it covers.  I've lived in some of the same places as the rest of you here, and traveled those roads extensively.

Like, Northern Wi..Green Bay for 5 years where I taught at the tech college.

St Louis also was my home for around 5 years, where I attended collage, and 1st grandchild was born.
Just north of Grand Rapids is where I am,again.  If you consider 2 1/2 hours to be 'just north' of Grand Rapids.

I can't figure out where Lake Santee is, but I love your face, Bob.  There is something comforting about it.  Your sign off is great too!

Kansas? I've been to Kansas, but I'm not in Kansas any more, Toto.

This was fun.  Hope someone else chime in so I can continue this.

(Oh yeah, WI, I started out in Iron Mtn)

    Cheers,
    Cher

PS:  Not to leave out IN, I've been there a lot, just never lived there.  I think the song "Indiana wants me but I can't go back there" may apply.  I don't really recall...or admit...or know what I'm talking about anymore....

Thanks for the kind word, Cher.  The sign-off I stole from someone else, don't remember who or where.  That is not actually my face on the avatar either, so I guess I am a double thief.  The face is Alfred E Newman, a much better looking guy.

Bob, What me worry?? and I know that if you're confident enought to use that photo, you've gotta be pretty darn handsome.

( I'm old enough to have had an older brother who read it all the time,  Then I got to read it and passed it along to the little bro, then sis, then my parents would secretly consume it. )

Hey, a good sign off is a good sign off.! Live long and prosper!

I don't know if I count, but I'm in the Midwest, too. All of the editors/moderators are, since Kalmbach is located in Waukesha, WI (just west of Milwaukee).

Re: Anyone else in the Midwest?

You missed what I consider one of the better ones close by, Greenfield (Indy suburb to the east).  It was held 7-9 this month.

There is one at the Fairground in Oct, and next March.  Farther afield is Richmond (February), Bloomington (June).  Then there is GeoFest at the State Museum in Oct.

Most magazines list the shows - Lap Jrnl, Rock & Gem, and of course a shorter list in  Art Jewelry.

What are you mainly interested in?

I live about 25 miles Northwest of Chicago.  I have noticed that this area of the country is not as artsy/crafty as some other areas.  There is no one teaching jewelry making in this area, other than just stringing beads.

Re: Anyone else in the Midwest?

I know that area well, My daughter used to live in Schaumberg and we used to go there often.  I don't know if that is close to where you're at, but I sure liked visiting there.

If you vacation up north MI around the sleeping bear dunes national lakeshore, be sure to stop in.  I give lessons in my studio, primarily in making fused glass for use in jewelry.  I'd be happy to help! Check out my blog site for pics of my neck of the woods.  i think it's set up in my sig, but just in case it's not,  http://www.tomcher.blogspot.com

    Cheers!

I am very close to Schaumburg about 15 minutes East.  We have never been that far North but if we ever do, I will look you up.

Does anyone out there know of anyone who teaches wire wrapping in either Southern Wisconsin, Western Indiana or Illinois?

In Indy there are jewelry classes at the Indianapolis Art Center, and Indiana University and Ball State both have metalsmithing programs (I graduated with a degree in metalsmithing from Ball State!) - so it's around, you just have to find it =)
