    Help needed with stone setting

Does anyone have instructions on how to set a stone?  I purchased Mystic Topaz and 14 K earring and pendant settings to use.  I know I got ripped off for the settings, but I want to use them anyway.

The instructions I found online say you have to notch out a place for the stone to sit and then fold the remaining top over the stone.  I did not know it would be so hard, I thought you just folded it over.  I did try a bit to fold over and it is too strong for me to do gently.

     Can anyone help?

    thanks in advance

    Hi Jenny,

To cut the prongs, try using a stone setting bur with your dremel or flex shaft. You will cut notches in the prongs to create a seat for the stone to sit in your setting. Place the stone so it is level and then gently bend the prongs over the stone using pliers.

Here's a picture of a stone setting bur in this excellent article on stone setting by Tim McCreight:

    I hope this helps.
