New Marketing Idea For Artists on Etsy Using Blogging

I came up with this new marketing idea about 2 weeks ago for artists who want to increase their exposure called the 90 Features in 90 Days Challenge. What it consists of is that 90 artists (technically 91 including yourself) all feature each other in our blogs over the holiday shopping season. Just 1 feature story every so often isn't alot of exposure and it may not get picked up that often by search engines, but 90 is a whole different story! The beauty of it is that you get exposure both ways both giving and receiving the features, so the more diligent you are about writing everyday the more your odds are increased that you will get business from doing this.

Right now we have about 42 or 43 people participating and the artists have reported that their views have gone up quite a bit. We are very interested to test this out to see how many features it takes before artists' sales increase. We'll keep accepting new participants until we reach the full 91.

What people do to sign up is go to this thread on etsy (if you already are signed up on Etsy that's great; if not, you can sign up free for either a buyer or a seller account so that you are able to post in their forum). The thread to post on is here: http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=5251490&page=58

Post your blog link of the blog in which you will be reciprocating with the other artists and doing their feature stories. The key to this is being self-disciplined enough to follow through and post 1 feature per day. You can get the information on them any way you want; ask them interview questions, write it from information supplied in their Etsy profile or other website, or from their blog, or you can just write it from your observations and thoughts about their work.

Make a blog schedule for all the participants. Try to mix up the order of them so that the same person is not featured by too many others on the same day. I keep a list with dates in a WORD file and update it as new participants join. Then you post that blog schedule on the thread. Be sure to bookmark the Etsy forum thread so that you have no trouble finding it easily whenever you have something new to report or want to update your blog schedule.

Contact the person to let them know they're being featured on that day or the day before.

When doing the feature, choose 2-3 photos from the person's Etsy shop and/or another website where they have nice work.

Be sure to include the name of their business, their etsy store link, and their blog link (and if you want to include links to other sites where they sell their work too you can).

There are a whole bunch of other helpful tips on that thread you will want to read too.

I've been doing this for 14 days (since Oct.1st) and it is alot of fun, and it's exciting to see the extra visibility your blog has once it is this active. I have a hit counter on my blog and also get notifications in my e-mail from Google everytime my name comes up. I have also been trying to get Google Analytics on my blog (but that is a bit more complicated, as I'm not all that knowledgeable about where to put the code).

If you notice an increase in your sales at some point be sure to post that on the thread too.

If you don't have an Etsy store and just have a buyer account there, let people know another link to where you sell your work that they can use to direct business to you when they feature you when you provide your blog link.

    I hope this helps everybody.

    Sincerely,

    Pippit

    Pippit,

I LOVEEEE this idea.  It is great.  Unfortunately I am not quite set up with etsy and website yet, but will be in next week or so.  I will definately be joining.  My hosting company has a blogging feature with the websites.

This is a great way to get exposure.

     Thanks,

    Deirdre
