    Question on Copper Chain Maille

I just finished a chain maille bracelet that has both copper and silver.

I've never worked with copper (this was my first experiment), and I wondered about the copper turning...and if there was anything that I could do, at this stage, to protect it?

Only if you want to go ring by ring to coat with sealer - ugh!  It might be worth considering putting the whole piece into Liver of Sulphur, which will treat both metals.

Plan B is to periodically run it through your tumbler for a few minutes to shine it up.  And store it in a sealed bag to reduce exposure to moisture.

What will Liver of Sulpha (SP) do to it?, where can I get that so as to protect the copper?  If thats what it will do.  I just finished a bracelet and earrings to match of copper , only I eincluded some of my lampwork beads in it.  will that harm the lampwork?

I'm with Jilla on her Plan B above. Just make sure you tumble it at least a couple of hours. It turns out beautifully. If these are pieces you are going to sell, most buyers do not have access to a tumbler, so I would recommend to them like Jilla said, store in a plastic zip bag with the air pushed out of it, and polish when needed with a good jewelers cloth.

You won't be wanting to put the lampwork through the tumbler.  I've think it sounds like this piece is "past the point of no return" as far as your options are concerned.   Store it with anti-tarnish strips sealed into the bag.  You can get them in any major department store that sells sterling silver flatware.  The Container Store carries them,  and of course almost any of the on-line stores carries them.

I have made several items using different gauges of copper wire.  I am doing this so that I can learn how to do patters inexpensively.  So far, they have all turned out just fine.  One problem though and that is how to obtain a bright shiney finished product.  Am still working on that one.  Now, should you discover the secret please share it with me.

    Many Thanks!
