Do you use creative methods for sneaking beads into the house?

This may have been done before, but I did a search on 'sneak' and 'smuggle' and didn't get any hits.  It was prompted by yet another comment from a customer about how she was going to sneak her latest bead purchase into the house.

Just thought I'd throw this out and see how many confessions we get, or let us know the most creative way you have smuggled jewelry-related items into the house.  People in the Beadstyle forum might be more likely to be the ones to smuggle, but this is the one I hang around in, so I thought I'd post here.

For my confession, some of my purchases used to stay in the trunk of the car where I wouldn't really need them until hubby happened to be in the shower. (It's easier now that we sell beading components - there's no way for him to tell what is inventory and what has been purchased for my use.)

Sneaking, smuggling purchases in your own home??!!  I can't decide if I should be sad for the person who needs to sneak in purchases or the other person who is in the dark about how money is being spent in their home.  Maybe  - it's both parties...

First, it's just meant to be funny. I don't think it's a case of trying to keep the other party in the dark as much as it is self-imposed guilt.  Honestly, I never teach a class that someone doesn't say something like, "now I have something else I have to  sneak into the house...", prompting several other sympathetic giggles or comments.

The shoe is on the other foot now - my husband is semi-retired and is spending a lot of time building model ships. I notice that his stash of model-building stuff is steadily growing, although I haven't seen much of it actually come into the house.  He's not trying to deceive me about what he is spending because he knows I pay the credit card bills and I don't care what he spends.

I would also worry more about the unexplained spending.

Don't worry, it IS funny to those of us with a sense of humor.   I can totally relate to what you're talking about.  I myself have experienced the same self imposed guilt, even though I know that I will make far more money than I spent on them.  For the most part, I only spend money on my beads and supplies that I've made off of jewelry related sales anyway.  But I've also been known to slide a package in under the radar.  My other half has never said a word about what I spend - heck, it's my money that I spend anyway.  And though it's really a business expense, it also feels very indulgent when I've scored some really sweet supplies.

luckily foe me, I never have to sneak. my husband is thrilled that I have a hobby that I'm so passionate about. he also spends an order of magnitude more money than I do on his hobbies! also, I earn back everything I spend so it doesn't matter anyway : )

I don't need to sneak my purchases in as nobody cares especially what I'm doing however I don't usually mention how much I'm spending.  It's my money and it's not taking anything away from the household.  It's kind of scary to admit that I just walked out of the bead store with a tiny brown bag that cost $60 .  When I do that too often, my own self imposed guilt kicks in...but it doesn't stop me from doing it over and over again, LOL.

Oh oh, I just love what you wrote!  I started to read it out loud to my partner!

I know what you mean. I have a guilty/puppy eyes look when I have gone bananas and bought more beads or glass or whatever Lucky he supports me to. And I pay all the bills, buy everything we need for the home (food etc.), so the money I have left I can do whatever I want to with. But still - one does fell kind of guilty. Why do I buy these beads when I already have other beads at home waiting to be used and so on... So I don´t sneak, as much as look guilty and qute, and then he knows. But he loves me for who I am

Maybe I´ll just start to smuggle some, sound like fun

I tend to do that alot. Once I finish "stalking" the post man (yes, we are on a first name basis and he even knows that the the box from Monsterslayer has more wire for me lol).

For my husband (and kids), it's not so much the money aspect, it's the "Now where the heck are you going to put THAT?" I have quickly outgrown a six drawer cabinet and have over taken a large bookcase and a large plastic bin...oh the list goes on. Seriously, when I do spring cleaning, it's like Christmas! I really need to be more organized lol. Mind you, we have a small apartment so space is very limited.

I'm sure my tombstone will say something like: "She died as she lived, buried under a ton of various stones, beads, and gems."

Re: stalking the post man -I know - I'm sure my poor postman is tired of lugging stuff up to the house that won't fit in the mailbox.

And now that I started this discussion I have a story to add - last week I took my parents out for an early dinner. My mother is a retired elementary school teacher who has recently discovered the internet. When we got back from dinner, there was a big box on their porch clearly marked "Crayola".  She said (sheepishly), "oh, my crayons came." And still in front of my dad, "I was hoping they'd come when Dad wasn't home".  She's not sure why she ordered the crayons except that she's a retired schoolteacher and that's what they do.  And my dad doesn't care what she orders.  But I had to laugh and tell her about the discussion here.

I sneak a lot of purchases into the house.  I don't have to, no.  But it's become some kind of sick habit almost.  My husband doesn't care or anything (that's why I say sick habit).  My hubby is very supportive of my jewelry making habit.  He knows that I will eventually be making money to support my own habit.  Now if I could get one of his hobbies to pay off that would be great!

Same here, but if I should be seen "shopping" or bringing home more beads, my dear one always "reminds" me I have "enough already" and I get the lecture on on "metastatic" crafts' supplies taking over the whole house, and don't I think I have enough already, and where are you planning to put those-- you already have too many... etc. ... ad nauseum.

Then again, he'd probably have a heart attack if he did know how much all of them cost, even if it was "my money"... so I don't tell him.

I got a "new" chest to store beads in... an industrial gray, steel chest with 24 little file drawers. It's replacing a steel utility shelving unit that hubby "bent" when he leaned on it. (Hubby plus all the beads on the shelf was more than the thin guage could handle). I've been re-organizing beads... and hubby was right-- I DO have a lot of beads I didn't know I had....

I am new to this forum and have been reading most of the posts and replies.

I think this particular posting was kind of fun.

Yup, I sneak beads into the house, along with household items, clothes, and shoes too

I think that some posters that reply are just serious and come off sound really rude

Loopy - lighten up. I string beads and am also exceptionally creative and successful! All the stuff I "sneak in the house" comes from my MAD money that I make from selling my jewelry and paintings. So I am not really doing anyone any harm...am I?

I tried to sneek the new arc welder in but the blue reflection off of the car windows gave it away real quick. Not very bright of me.
