    Professional Jeweler's Schools

I've decided that I would like some traditional professional jewelry education - my schooling was strictly the artistic side of the trade, and I am seriously lacking in a lot of the technical skills.  I live in Indiana, so there aren't a lot of options for me if I don't want to go too far.  What I really want is to learn stone setting & goldsmithing, as well as the basic repair things.  I've found two places that seem promising:  Connor Jeweler's School in New Albany, Indiana, and Drouhard National Jeweler's School in Mansfield, Ohio.  Both seem to have good programs; Drouhard's seems to be cheaper, although I'm not sure if the class length is the same in both (I've e-mailed Connor's to clarify this).

My question for you all is whether you know anything about either of these schools, and do you recommend one over the other?  Or is there another place that you would recommend instead?  I want to stay within my bordering states, so preferably within Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, or Illinois.  I might be willing to go further if I become convinced that it would be worth it.

Thanks to anyone who helps me out with this!!!

I Googled "jewelry schools Indiana" and the first hit was Bench Mark Academy in Mishawaka, IN that teaches bench jewelry classes. I'm sure that if did the search you could come up with one that fills your needs close to your home. Some junior colleges around the country have programs for bench jewelers. I know how it is not having all of the necessary skills for what you want to make but I have found that if you keep asking you will eventually find a jeweler that will spend some time with you to show you how.

I did the search and found the link, but it looks like they moved and something else is in it's place, because the site is not for a jeweler's school...  Hmm, I wonder if they closed??

OK, I guess that they are gone but how about Goshen College? They have a jewelry program. I have no idea just how close you are to Goshen but look them up and see what they offer. Also try a search for "jewelry classes Indiana" and see what pops up. Maybe a search for "craft schools" may find a good program too.

Try this place http://www.indplsartcenter.org/ it looks interesting just for the shear variety of classes. I know you have basic metalsmithing down but they have a summer course in it. Sometimes places like this will have an artist in residence that will show students some advanced things in open studio when you take a regular class.
