Any free (and good) tutorials on this?

Hello, I am new to chain mail. I saw a chain that I would like to make, see picture. It seems quite simple, but is there any free tutorials out there giving guide lines on what ring sizes, gauges etc?

    That's a wedding knot chain.

It's not free, but Deanna Kittrell published a tutorial on it in the December 2007 issue of Bead&Button. You can order a back issue, or purchase and instantly download just the article here:

The instructions and photos are very clear.

    Good luck!

It's generally known as Helm Chain. MAIL has a couple tutorials for it, at http://mailleartisans.org/articles/articledisplay.cgi?key=14060 and http://mailleartisans.org/articles/articledisplay.cgi?key=12161 ; I also have a tutorial for it on my site, at http://cgmaille.com/tutorials/helm.shtml .

     All are free.

     Cheers,

Re: Any free (and good) tutorials on this?

Thank you very much - those were very useful tips! I am a little set back by all the possibilites with chain mail, I was really not aware of all the different weaves. What about combining stone pearls with chain mail? Is there also some useful instructions out there on how to do that so that it gets nice?

I have some 8 mm round stones (with hole) that I would like to incorporate in a chain and would be very thankful for tips on that too :-)

was -Re: Any free tutorials? now- incorporating beads

Hi there, you can use beads or stones with maille,  like the weaves the possibilities are endless.

If you don't mind take a look at my site, I have lots of examples where beads are wire wrapped and added in between segments of chain, I have beads that go on the rings that are then woven into the chain, lots of ways you can add beads, stones crystals etc.
