How do you know when to become an LLC vs. Sole P

Hi, My business is a sole proprietorship right now, but I was just wondering if I should have been an LLC from the beginning. I know I need to have more sales, but i am just curious about everyone's business decisions. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Anyone from California, I would especially love a response. Thanks!

I am from CA and only have a reseller license. From what I understand the corporation's main benefit is to protect you personally from liability. Is that an issue with selling jewelry? I doubt it!
