About Nancy Lee
Born in Carbondale, Illinois, during a sweltering summer while my dad was taking finals at Southern Illinois University, I've been daydreaming ever since. I have dabbled in most forms of art and craft, trying to recreate my dreams. Attending a jewelry making class to make findings for my polymer creations, I experienced my “aha” moment. Metal was found to be as “plastic” as the polymers seemed to be - maybe this was my link to my dreamwork!
After over ten years working with metals, I still focus on the plasticity of metal to say what comes from my day visions and night dreams. Sometimes only the silver or copper is used in a piece, sometimes semi-precious stones, very often pearls, and occasionally gold, low brass, enamels and found objects will be used to embellish ideas and inspire the viewers own narrative of their meaning.
My work tends toward the minimalist and focuses on body-conscious design.
Losing my job in construction help me focus on another dream - making jewelry and metal objects full-time. After years of dabbling in the art, it's now a full-time passion: nDesigns Metal Jewelry and Objects. I also teach whatever I know to students at the Indianapolis Art Center and privately.
