“The challenge was to incorporate the two very different patterns of opal in a reversible pendant depicting two very different themes,” says Dalan Hargrave. He collaborated with Barrett Mining Co., of Lightning Ridge, Australia, where the opal was mined. The two-sided black opal weighs 35 carats. One side of the pendant depicts an angelfish, and the other, a butterfly. Cast and fabricated elements are made of 14k yellow and white gold, and the pendant is accented with rubies and yellow and white diamonds. 45 x 32 mm (13⁄4 x 11⁄4 in.).
