Commemorative Locket

Julie Jerman-Melka cut and carved the base of Commemorative Locket from a granite pebble, and the top is a quartz stone. The 1 1⁄4 x 1 1⁄4 x 1-in. (32 x 32 x 25.5 mm) piece is also sterling, metal clay, garnet, and pearl. “Many of my days at the ‘office’ consist of walks along beaches and hiking. I tried to make this a very intimate, tactile piece that’s meant to be held and explored, just like my exploring on my walks.” This piece appeared in the May 2009 issue of Art Jewelry.
