  • Re: Another Tumbling Question

Thanks Edmund. I had no idea the Thai silver had such a variety of metals. I guess I learned an expensive lesson, but many times that's how we learn! I appreciate your help. Actually, it is not a bad look. I may just patina some chain to go with the pieces and it could be a nice look! SueW

  • Another Tumbling Question

I just tumbled polished some silver focal beads that I believe are Thai silver. They came out sort of greyish-bluish and shiny, not the shiny silver color I expected. I have polished lots of silver in my tumbler with stainless steel shot and Dawn dish liquid and it has come out beautifully. Is there something different with the Thai ...

Hi Holly,  Nice to see your work again. As are all of your pieces, this is georgeous. The pendant itself is beautiful and I really like how you display it with the multiple strands. Keep up the inspiring work! SueW

  • Re: Bronze sheet & solder question

Thanks, Addie.  Do you know if those 3M Radial discs would work on that? Some of the stain is in a very tight place. I don't have any to try but I would certainly get some if they would do the job! Sue W.

  • Bronze sheet & solder question

This is my first attempt at working with brass sheet. I just soldered a piece of copper sheet to some brass sheet and then put it in the pickle. When I removed it from the pickle I noticed some copper color on the bronze piece which I am assuming is the solder that ran out while heating. I used silver solder, but it looks coppery now. Does the ...

  • Re: liver of sulfur - oops

I cut my own jumprings and put them in the tumbler before I made something with them. I tumbled them with Dawn liquid, water & the shot. I just made a bracelet with the rings and dipped it in the LOS and got the same coloring effect as mentioned above. So I'm guessing it must just happen as a result of the prior tumbling. It is ...

Hi Liz,  Check out "The Art of Resin Jewelry" by Sherri Haab. The book covers all kinds of resin info and projects. It's a good one. Have fun! SueW

  • Re: Etching on Base Metal?

Hi Addie, The metal is touted only as "base metal"!  It's like a dog tag. Probably nickel. Do you know of other etchants other than ferric chloride and ferric nitrate? Sue W
