  • Re: Pet safety: butane torch soldering fumes

I did mention snakes. Around here we only have 3 of the most venomous, the tiger, eastern brown (king brown is worse but haven't seen one here....yet) and the copperhead.

[QUOTE] I'd be more worried about the sun exposure down there, the little almost invisable jelly fish that kill you and some rogue kangaroo crashing into your house. ;~) [QUOTE] Hahahahahahahahahahahaha. That was funny! Where I live, we are littered along our beach at the moment with beautiful moon jellyfish. We've had some really ...

  • Re: Pet safety: butane torch soldering fumes

On the same sort of issue, but in a slightly different way.... I'm trying to have another baby. What potential hazards should I be eliminating from my workspace? I use Handy Flux and a Butane/propane mix torch. My pickle is vinegar and salt and I use rouge and Zam for final polishes. I ventilate the room with an open door and when the weather ...

  • Re: Theme for October- All Hallow's Eve, the spirits are dancing

I confess that I have never been to a Halloween party in my life. Until VERY recently, Halloween wasn't big in Australia. In the last couple of years, I've started to see a few more parties happening and there are quite a few dress-ups in the shops now. I have never seen a real jack'o'lantern and I guess that is why I chose to do ...

  • Re: stamping letters

I do the same as Bentiron....letters, metal block, hammer. I have also found that during the process of polishing the piece, the polishing compound goes in to the letters and makes them dark. I don't make a terrible effort to remove this blackening effect as I rather like it, although I do remove the rest of the polish with ...

  • Re: Theme for September- Bravery brooch

I agree with you, DW....given the general level of responses, it's probably better to offer a bi-monthly theme, rather than a monthly theme. This is certainly not a new idea, I've been going through the old threads (now down to just under 1000) and Jilla, LCD et al, had challenges (theme based, usually on colours) they made pieces for, so ...

  • Re: Sea glass and soldering question

If you've read through the thread, you'll see that I actually DID shatter the glass. And that was just soldering a 20G JUMP RING, not a bezel with glass in it. I would thoroughly advise you to make the bezel, attach the bale or end rings or whatever you're adding, pickle, rinse, clean up, polish....then set your glass. belisana and ...

  • Re: Sea glass and soldering question

I gather that you are asking about pickling once the soldering is finished, before setting the glass. Since the pickle is supposed to be rinsed off thoroughly before any polishing starts, there shouldn't be any left around to affect the surface of the glass in any way. If, you are soldering rings which have been put through the glass (which ...

  • Re: byzantine hoop earrings

This is just an idea and I don't even know if it would work.....but what about threading the weave onto a pre-formed hoop? It will mean spitting some of the Byzantine links a little to fit it through, but the hoop doesn't need to be a particularly heavy gauge and if you're using a reasonable sized ring to make the weave, it might ...

Hahaha. Classic. Thanks for the clarification. It's a really great piece. Kelly
