  • Re: Letter Stamps/PMC

I've had my own stamps made for the last five years by a woman owned/operated company called The Stampmaker. ( www.the stampmaker.com) If you give them an Adobe file with the artwork on it (or mail them a printed sheet), you can have either a clear plastic or red rubber sheet of stamps made, and it's not horribly expensive (around $100 ...

  • Re: What can I use for "practice clay" that handles like Art Clay?

I'm thinking that you aren't looking for something like Sculpey (a polymer clay) to use because it doesn't handle the same way at all. First of all, Art Clay is less elastic, and doesn't roll out the same way. Most importantly, it dries out so much more quickly that I don't think you'll be prepared when you switch over. ...

  • Re: Attaching fired pmc3 pieces to one another

I hate to give you the bad news, but I have tried repeatedly to do just that, and it doesn't work. My guess is that the silver needs to become almost liquid to meld with another piece, even when there are minute grooves caused by sanding, roughing up, etc. I haven't had much luck with homemade paste, either, but I made some with ...

  • Re: Size limit

So, how big is "big'? Are we talking 4 mm thick for a pendant or 8 mm for a sculpture?

  • Re: PMC mold hunt - can you help?

You could try making a mold with a two part silicone mold compound. Rio Grande sells it. (I'm sure you can get it elsewhere, as well.) You mix two clay-like compounds together, then press whatever it is you want to re-create into it, let it set up and you have a flexible mold.

  • Re: Burnishing in a tumbler: help!! pieces turn black

Edmund, I am not trying to argue with you - you obviously know your metallurgy. And I understand the principles you cite. All I am doing is letting everyone know MY experience with mixing metals. It's my observation that too many people starting out with silver clay are scared away by the long list of "do's, don't's and ...

  • Re: Burnishing in a tumbler: help!! pieces turn black

I hate to be a naysayer, but I simply don't believe that firing/tumbling mixed metals is that big a problem. I've been doing it for quite a while, and although I do see a SLIGHT copper residual on my silver pieces, it's not that difficult to remove. I tumble everything with a combination of Dawn dishsoap and Rio's Sunsheen ...

  • Re: Burnishing in a tumbler: help!! pieces turn black

Love that idea!! Two of my tumblers are in need if replacement, so I'll try replacing them with jars...and I love artichokes, so it's a bonus! :) I still go with Dawn and Sunsheen from Rio as a fix for the black deposits, but I'll also try the baking soda. Now I have a question - has anyone had a problem with a white film that ...

  • Re: Burnishing in a tumbler: help!! pieces turn black

I use my tumblers constantly (I have 6 - usually three or four running at a time) and always have that problem until they get broken in. The rubber breaks down slightly and deposits on the silver - but it's easy to wash off with hot water and a heavy dose of a grease fighting dish detergent such as Dawn. I also use copper in some of my ...

  • Re: Bronze clay

I have a couple of other questions. First, is there any indication of what cost will be for this clay? And, I emailed the company that makes it because they also show that they make copper clay, but haven't heard back from them. Does anyone know if copper clay will be out there, too? By the way, nice intro articles for bronze clay in ...
