Sometimes I stick a chunk of scrap clay to a cane that has gotten too short to easily slice. It gives me something to hold onto and some support to the cane. Can pretty much slice right down to the end of the cane that way!

Free Leaf Cane Tutorial

I have a new step-by-step tutorial on my site:

So I started reducing it and playing with it a bit and I've deicded that I love this cane!

So now I'm going to work on complementary accent beads to go with these focals and hope to have a finished piece to post is SUYW in a day or two.

Earthtone cane

Here's a pic with what I've been working on. At the top of the pyramid is one of the pillow beads made from the cane I finished last week. The pendants are from the Skinner blend scraps or parts of the sheets used to build the cane. Ugh - just noticed the camera jiggled - sorry about that.

So I started maching it around. Twist, slice etc. - you know the drill. And made a bunch of beads and tried some Isis focals - just sort of O.K. I'm not sure if I've "saved" this - the finished piece seems to want less color and more solid black for visual relief but I'm not real sure. Maybe some solid purple or orange beads? I've got a lot of small beads left - bummer. Gotta figure out what to do with them. Maybe a second strand on this one?
