Hi Everyone!

I'm new to working with polymers.

A problem I have ~ after baking, my beads will often crack when i am stringing them , or when I am sanding etc.

Are there any Do Nots?

Can different clays be mixed together, such as Kato & Sculpey?

I'm living in central Texas, and we are near our 50th day of triple-digit temperatures in the past 60 days. My studio is at the front of the house, and keeping it cool enough has been a challenge. I'm wondering if my clay is reacting to the increased temp in the house (near 80 deg) over a long period of time? Should I keep it in the refrigerator and take it out a few hours before I plan to use it? Some that hve been conditioned into blocks and wrapped up have begun to get a light streak around the edge.

Quick questions about coloring on clay

Hi!

I'm fairly new to polymer clay, but I've been enjoying experimenting with my large collection of rubber stamps to make pendants.

I really like the faux ceramic look and saw a tutorial somewhere that talked about mixing alcohol inks with liquid PC to get color. I tried some Adirondak inks, but I'm getting very strange results. When I mix the ink with the liquid Sculpey, all I get is brown or gray no matter what the color of the original ink. Any ideas as to why that's happening? What else can I mix in to get color?

What are other ways of coloring on the clay? I was thinking I'd like to try baking blank pendants and then stamping with ink onto the baked clay. Can I then paint on the surface with regular inks? Colored pencils? paints? or is it best to stick with tinted PC? What do I do to get these colors to set?

I know there are a few books out there about stamping on clay, but there's a waiting list at my local library for them, so until I get my hands on those pages, I thought I'd try here :)

Hi, Here's another of my pieces. Polymer clay poppies and seed heads, used with metallic effect seed beads, crystals and acrylic leaves. I discovered polymer clay about 8 weeks ago and love it!!! I am still learning and would love any help and advice.....

Another 'Mermaid' necklace

Sorry if I've been posting in the wrong section..... but thank you for your encouraging comments.

Here's another mermaid I finished yesterday. Polymer clay mermaid pendant used with faux pearls, AB crystals and seed beads.

She is worn to the side of the neck, starting just about level with the collar bone, and hangs straight, peeking out from the seed bead 'seaweed'.

New Web Site Design

Finally I got around to unlocking my ID from the old forum. It’s been a busy summer for me (mostly with not jewelry-related stuff, unfortunately)…

I just finished updating my website. I removed the logo from the top of each page to better show photos of my work and re-arranged the site navigation to better highlight my classes and tutorials. I still feel good about these changes, but I am not sure about the way the site feels overall. I do not know, maybe I spent too much time there… I can definitely use some advice and would like to hear your guys opinions. Please take a look and let me know what you think.

clay pendants

I've always been a bit of a lurker on here and have never posted any pics, but i have been experimenting with fimo clay and actually sold some simple pendants so i guess some people like them.

I started with the hearts, then progressed onto sanding and buffing and made some necklaces which i have an order of 3 more to do.

had a bit of a problem with embossing powder! i tried to get it to stay on the raised areas but had a bit of trouble. apparently i have to use finer powder....its now on order.
