To be succinct, I am a jewelry crafting newbie.

I am currently unemployed, and am using this time to explore this passion and make enough money to get by doing so (at least for the time being). I am just beginning to learn the ropes of jewelry-crafting on my own--haven't read any books on the subject (I consulted Mr.Wallet at the bookstore and Mr.Wallet said no).

My goal in this community is not only to learn from you. I hope to gain many of you as friends, people who I can bounce ideas off of and vice versa.

So I am calling any and all of the following to reply:
1. Fellow novices--we can relate to one another, and learn together (it's always nice to know you aren't the only one struggling with wire wrapping/techniques, etc.)

2. Masters of technique and knowledge, especially in the areas of:
a. Wire--wrapping it, beading it, creating components, weaving it, etc.
b. Beading
c. Finding the best ways/places to purchase inexpensive supplies (without compromising high quality)(and without having to have a tax id no.)**

3. Anyone and everyone who is interested in bonding over our mutual interest in this craft :)

I would be honored to be associated with such a group of highly-skilled artists, and look forward to communicating with you.

Sincerely,
B.
** I have looked into getting a tax ID no. in order to qualify for wholesale deals on many Web sites. HOWEVER, it would take over a month for them to authorize it for use. I need to be selling sooner.

We are excited in here in the Land of the Midnight Sun to see the sun staying up longer every day and the price of metal clay going down..... In hard economic times. The artist is often the looser when Indonesian and Chinese products are flooding the American market with mass produced, mass marketed jewelry and so called art pieces. I am sure everyone feels it, kind of like sending all out tech support calls to India, and all of our auto worker jobs to Brazil. America is capable of keeping up with the precious metal clay business, without looking to other countries like Japan for invention and production. If you are in Alaska, check out the local bead and glass shops in the state for new American made products; bronze, brass, copper and a blend of Metal Clay.

I just joined myself and am looking forward to becoming a part of this community myself. I have a friend in Honolulu that is a professor at the University. He is my connection for rare Hawaian woods used in my jewelry making sometimes. I just got a parcel from him weighing 120 LBS, Mostly Koa but also some Opima, Keawe, Kamani, Pheasant wood, and a few others like Monkey pod, and Cuban Mohogany. Have you ever used any of these in your jewelry making? It is all beautiful wood and if you get the curl can be outstanding. I also make custom knives so I use the woods for handle material as well. Have a great day!

I do all my own lapidary and therefore can create a gem specially designed for my wore art. I also do silver smithing but have no place to do this as of now.

I am exciited to become a part of a comunity that works the same mediums as I do. Hope I can fit in.

I just need to learn what kinds of molds work with different types of resins.
