Merry All the Time (Hollow Bead)

I had a commisioned trade with a friend fro this one - she gave me free rein and lots of time - I'm very glad she did! I was stuck after the two halves in the second shot, and it took me a while to work out what I wanted for the center, as well as how to achieve it.

The finished bead is 2.25in. by 1.0 in. - a larger focal. She wants me to 'cook' it -that means an LOS treatment, LOL. I think that is a good idea - more detail and drama in the piece. The photos are quick 'n dirty, plus I was trying out a weird grainy texture, almost newsprinty. I'll stick to the basics next time....

So anyway - any thoughts or questions?

Use HCl acid to remove firescale ?

Firescale on silver is caused by Cu2O embedded in the polished silver which can only be removed by abrasion. Sometimes a 'bright dip' may help by dipping is repeatedly into HNO3 and water but HNO3 dissolves the silver as well, I tried this a few times with moderate success.

On this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cu2O I read that hydrochloric acid dissolves Cu2O, so I am eager to try this to (boil ?) the work in HCl acid after the Tripoli polishing step tp let dissolve the firescale and then fine polishing the work.

Does somebody have experience with this ?

Hello-

New here. I am spending too much time scanning the interent for sterling silver necklaces and SS discs for hand stamping, stamps for jewelry stamping (different fonts) I seem to be chasing my tail and getting nowhere. I have ordered from a few companies (one necklace source has poor quality necklaces and another never bothered to notify me they were out of discs) but I would like to find one or two to use all the time. Any advice for me?
