  • Re: Free Leaf Cane Tutorial

I like that trick, it's a good one! Sometimes I stick a chunk of scrap clay to a cane that has gotten too short to easily slice. It gives me something to hold onto and some support to the cane. Can pretty much slice right down to the end of the cane that way!

  • Tropical Look Polymer Necklace

This is one of several pendants I made from a new cane I built last week. The focal uses a slice of the cane as a base cabochon, then pieces of the same clay that was used for the cane only sculpted for the dimensional flowers and leaves. Enjoy!

  • New cane

I've got a Dover book of Victorian stained glass designs and there was one that had a little part I really liked. So I grabbed my colored pencils and my color wheel, made some Skinner blends, and came up with this. When I first cut off this slice it wasn't quite what I thought I wanted to end...

Here's a pic with what I've been working on. At the top of the pyramid is one of the pillow beads made from the cane I finished last week. The pendants are from the Skinner blend scraps or parts of the sheets used to build the cane. Ugh - just noticed the camera jiggled - sorry about that.

  • Scrimshaw look in Polymer

Here are a focal and two accent beads made from the same polymer cane-work, only for the accent beads the big design is reduced and manipulated. Thanks for looking!

  • Strong Graphic in Polymer

Here's just one of a whole series of pendants and beads made from one cane of polymer. This is the "Big Bertha" before it gets reduced and cut into different sizes and shapes. It's about an inch and a half across but it seems bigger just because it's a bit noisy.

Because I love you guys...even if you make fun of my nudie headshots...here's the fugly leaf cane, aka The Burning Bush. No need to be gentle...I *know* how bad it is! Can you say "overpacked the stem?"

  • Really bad cane

Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time and I really thought this would be so cool. NOT! But I was so sure it was a good idea that I made a bunch. This is the last surviving slice, just for a reminder to not do that! So I started maching it around. Twist, slice etc. - you know the drill. And made...
