  • Is it possible to find a good rolling mill at a great price?

One of our recent subscriber-only projects, Layered Silver-Disk Bracelet , says to use a rolling mill to flatten and shape silver disks. Since posting the project, we've received some reader concerns about the high cost of rolling mills, which are priced anywhere from several hundred to several thousand...

Hi, I've has this rolling mill for two + years. I still can't get the bolt off to change the top roller. Though ironically i can take off all the parts to the bottom roller (that cannot be changed due to the fact that it's longer than the pattern rollers.) I am wondering if anyone has any...

  • Can you make sheet metal from casting alloys?

Hi, I have tried experimenting with this on aluminum. I melted the aluminum down and poured is out. The metal was so hard when I tried to roll it down! I then attempted to anneal it; when I rolled it down it crumbled to pieces. I am thinking of purchasing white bronze alloy just so I can melt it down...

Hello, I recently aquired a rolling mill that was worth the price even though it has some rust on it. Can anyone help suggest a way to get the rust off, and the best way to protect it in the future? I assume some type of oil would be best so I wonder what oil specifically, and if there is a good way...

  • Patterned rollers for rolling mill

Hallo! I am hoping that someone might know where I can find patterned rollers for my rolling mill? I am specifically looking for the ones that have a nice antique engraved look. I would be extremely thankful if somebody can help me out.

  • Re: User's weight a factor in rolling mill pressure?

Hi Sue, To get the best impression, be sure to anneal your metal just before putting it through the mill. Remember that normal metalsmith preperations like cutting and sanding will work harden your metal. So anneal your metal AFTER you have sanded out imperfections and cut the metal to the shape you...

  • User's weight a factor in rolling mill pressure?

Hi All, I bought myself a great Durston rolling mill a month or so back and I'm having fun with it - but i find sometimes I think I should be getting a better impression from it. Everything I've read says that you should use 'significant, but not excessive' weight to roll, and not to...
